With the beginning of the clergy sex abuse and cover-up criminal trial in Philadelphia, as well as the recent guilty plea from Orange County (CA) priest Denis Lyons, I wanted to post a list of all of the currently active clergy criminal cases in the United States. If I have missed any, let me know. All of these are for sexual abuse or conspiracy to commit abuse, except for Fr. McCloskey in Albany. He was charged with fleeing from the police, reckless driving and auto theft.
- Diocese of San Diego – Reverend Jose Davila
- Diocese of Sacramento – Reverend Uriel Ojeda
- Diocese of Kansas City/St. Joseph – Bishop Robert Finn
- Diocese of Venice, Florida – Reverend Bernard Chojnacki
- Archdiocese of Philadelphia
- Diocese of Brooklyn – Reverend Thomas Brady
- Diocese of Albany – Reverend Francis McCloskey
Diocese of Charlotte – Father Joseph Kelleher was arrested in July of 2010 for indecent liberties with a child and is still awaiting trial in Stanly County in North Carolina.
Thank you!
Patrick, I think the Diocese of Crookston / Jeyapaul fits your request.

Hi, Patrick: Good job!!!!!! I have a quick question and a possible addition to your list. In Colorado in 2007 a Fr. Whipkey was arrested for running naked, in the early morning hours. This story just disappeared from Colorado newspapers. Do you know if Fr. Whipkey was removed from the ministry? I realize that “jogging naked” isn’t quite the same as abuse, but still it’s considered somewhat aberrant behavior.
Richard James Kurtz S.J. of the Chicago Detroit Society of Jesus. This Jesuit was arrested by the FBI Violent Crimes Taskforce and extradited to Colorado and has received no attention since November 2011. The case is ongoing in Douglas County. Given the Chicago Jesuits horrid record (Donald McGuire) they warrant a unique distinction on this list.

Hi Patrick,
I recently left the leadership of a Methodist church in Atlanta. A lay minister has sexually assaulted women and youth. The ministers and conference leadership admitted hearing from victims for years but has done nothing but hold an internal investigation that has put stipulations on the employee. We even went to the general counsel of the university the church sits on and he is still there among children and many college coeds. It has been heart breaking. A SVU Sargent told me that sadly this behavior and church cover up crosses the denomination spectrum.
